Pintail Villas Association Board of Directors 3300 Edinbourough Way #202 Edina, MN 55435
Dear Board of Directors;
On Sunday, July 22, 2007 my daughter Lily, age 5, and my son Peter, age 3, and I hosted a lemonade and cookie stand out of our wagon down by our mailboxes from 11 a.m. to noon. This fun family endeavor usually involves my kids helping me make signs, cookies and lemonade and pulling them down the block to set up a stand to teach them how to work with money and give back to their community. Our morning did not go as planned.
Shortly after we set up our lemonade stand, and after a few neighbors had trickled by complimenting the kids on their great lemonade, good cookies, and excellent manners, President Cleo Schaeffer approached me and my children and stated roughly, “ That is a no, no. We can’t sell lemonade and cookies. I’m sorry to rain on your parade, but you are going to have to leave.” Standing there with my neighbor, Steve, and my kids, I was quite taken aback and embarrassed by her comments.
A lemonade and cookie stand is in no estimation solicitation, but rather child’s play. It is no different than riding a bike down our streets or kicking a ball. I would go so far as to say, it is an enrichment of our neighborhood and our families. I could understand this being a problem if we were out selling things for a larger school benefit or if our lemonade stand were camped out there for six plus hours, however this was not the case. This benign event should have been overlooked by the Association, but rather is a clear example of the Association’s over management.
Is it really necessary for language to be added to the By-Laws to allow lemonade stands to take place on the premise? If so, I will seek it. But rather, I would like a written apology for the Association’s action on this matter and it overlooked in the future.
Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jennifer Lippold Pintail Villas Unit #87
