At Twins Fest today, I ran into a family that should be first in line for the next episode of the Super Nanny. This six year boy was leading his parents around like he was the rule of the roost. (Pardon the cliche). He was telling his parents, to "go get me some cotton candy" repeatedly and then after asking 5 times, he got it!!!! He was crawling under the coloring table and repeatedly being asked not to, and his mother was just nagging and nagging with no real discipline. It was driving me crazy. I started giving him dirty looks when he started stealing Lily's color crayons after his mother told him not to 4-5 times!!! It was ridiculous. Something was fishy when his Dad knocked him over the head with the poster when he repeatedly asked for a pretzel. Ugggghhhhh... He kept telling is parents "Look at my drawing, look." They were completely ignoring him. He had to act up to get attention. Not to mention, his parents kept over praising him. Telling him he was good at everything and that he was going to win the coloring contest, please, these parents need to get real. Save the praise for the real stuff, so it actually means something. I am not claiming to be a great parent, but at least I know some of the basics. Be real to your children or you are not accurately preparing them for what is out there.
